The W. L. Whelchel Family Life Center was the vision of Rev. W. L. Whelchel while serving as the Pastor of Hickory Grove Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. The vision came about when Rev. Whelchel saw that youth were going astray and a strong conviction to come up with something that would spark the interests of the youth of the church. As he was sitting and meditating, the Lord spoke to him and gave him the vision of a family life center. Simultaneously, yet unbeknownst to him, his son Tony Whelchel had the same vision and had already proceeded to have blue prints designed for the building. When the plans were placed before Rev. Whelchel, he could not believe what he was seeing as no one knew of his thought except the Lord.
Plans were set and the process moved forward. The Pastor and the church were turned down twice by two different banks. On the third try, the loan was approved. Pastor Whelchel was unaware of this approval, but the news was later shared with him in May of 2006, on his Pastor's Anniversary This was the greatest and most precious gift for which he could have ever hoped!
Two scriptures come to mind for such a miraculous revelation: (1) Habakkuk 2:2 "Write the vision, and make it plain" and (2) Matthew 19:26 "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible"
